CRASSULACEAE

Morphological description

Herbs, sometimes woody at base, exstipulate. Usually, succulent.

Leaves

Leaves opposite. Leaves bearing bulbils (some species of Kalanchoe).

Flowers

Flower actinomorphic, usually bisexual, 4- or 5-merous, carpels nearly free, superior.

Different from: Saxifragaceae, usually woody, not succulent, ovary usually inferior.

Distribution: The family is best represented in the northern hemisphere. In Malesia only Sedum and Kalanchoe*.

Notes: Kalanchoe species, have become completely naturalized in places, some species are cultivated as ornamentals.
